Encrypted messaging for firms that hold other people’s confidences.

MELKEM INC. is a Canadian company building a secure messaging service for organizations whose communications carry professional and regulatory obligations — among them family offices, private banks and law firms.

Messages are encrypted end to end on the sending device and decrypted only on the receiving one. The service operator cannot read them.

About

About MELKEM

MELKEM INC. is a Canadian software company in Ontario building private, encrypted software. MELKEM Authenticator, our free iPhone app, makes your two-factor codes on your device. It collects no personal data and makes no network connections, and its App Store privacy label is Data Not Collected. Our messaging service is in development and is not yet publicly available. We build privacy you can check, not just trust.

I How it is built

Established cryptography, operated in Canada

  • The Signal Protocol, implemented with libsignal — the open-source library published by the Signal Foundation. We design no cryptography of our own.
  • Post-quantum key agreement, designed so that traffic recorded today stays unreadable later, even to an adversary with a quantum computer.
  • Accounts belong to the organization rather than to an employee’s personal telephone number. Access is issued and withdrawn at the organization’s instruction.
  • Infrastructure operated by us in Canada, under Canadian law.

II What the service can see

Designed so that very little exists to disclose

For a message awaiting delivery, our infrastructure holds the destination device, the hour in which it arrived, an expiry time, and a block of bytes we cannot open. There is no sender field. Once the message is delivered, the record is deleted.

Stored messages are padded to a fixed 4 KB block, so an observer sees how many blocks, never the length. An ordinary text message occupies a single block.

III Status

The MELKEM messenger is in development and is not yet publicly available. It has not been released through the App Store and has not undergone an independent security audit. We do not publish a launch date.

See for yourself

Privacy you can check, not just trust.

MELKEM Authenticator is available now for iPhone. Here’s how you can check what we say about it.

Try the demonstration: watch a 2FA code being made.

Sample data: a public demo key, never yours.

Network activity check

“In our App Privacy Report check, the app didn’t appear in App Network Activity.”

Our test29 October 2026, MELKEM Authenticator 1.0, on an iPhone with App Privacy Report turned on. We unlocked the app, copied codes and created an encrypted export. The full App Network Activity list then showed 10 other apps and did not show MELKEM Authenticator.

What this showsThat test, on that date, with that version of the app. It does not cover other versions or other days.

Repeat the checkThe steps are in How to see which apps on your iPhone use the internet.

Recording: none yet.

This device only

“Two iPhones on the same Apple Account, with iCloud Passwords on: an account added on one didn’t appear on the other.”

Our test28 October 2026: two iPhones on the same Apple Account, with iCloud Passwords on. We added an account on one and looked on the other.

What this showsThat test, on that date: the account added on one iPhone didn’t appear on the other. Moving accounts to another iPhone is your choice, and you do it with an encrypted export that you create.

Backup and restoreA setup key doesn’t move to another iPhone through a backup or restore. This is stated on How MELKEM Authenticator works.

Repeat the checkOn two iPhones signed in to the same Apple Account with iCloud Passwords on, add an account in the app on one, then look in the app on the other.

Recording: none yet.

Our honest limits
  • No sync between devices.
  • iPhone only.
  • Not open source.
  • No independent security audit.

These limits are stated on How MELKEM Authenticator works.

What we don’t ask

Your name: we haven’t asked.

This site has no sign-up, no account and no form. The Ask MELKEM and search boxes work on your device and send nothing, so there is nowhere to give a name.

Your email: we haven’t asked.

There is no sign-up, mailing list or form on this site, so there is nowhere to give an email address.

An advertising profile: we don’t create one.

There are no ads on this site, and its pages load no analytics and no third-party scripts.

Your browsing: we don’t track it.

Our web server is set to discard its access log, the record of each request that would hold the visitor’s address, the page asked for and the browser, so we don’t keep that record; its start-up and error messages are still kept.
